When I first spotted Callie in her small cage at the local animal shelter, I caught my breath. I couldn’t believe such a magnificent looking cat was there. The information on her cage said her name was “Gizmo” (hard to see how that fit her) and that she was an owner surrender.

We took her to a visiting area to see if we would get along. She was gentle, but aloof. Unlike my previous rescue cat, Elsa, who had touched my cheek with her paw when I first looked at her, Callie didn’t reach out in any way to make friends. But she was just so beautiful, and at least had a calm temperament, that I decided to adopt her right away. We couldn’t believe that other people weren’t lined up trying to get her, and that’s how we ended up bringing this regal cat home.

She still has a startling, almost raptor-like look, but in the four years since we brought her home, she has become more affectionate than I ever thought she would be. However, here we will probably feature her more imperious side . . .

  1. Thanks so much for checking out Callie and all things calico. Your kitty looks a bit mysterious with the more prominent black–at least of what I can see in the Gravatar.

Since you’re an analyst, you might find my other work on psychology + poetry interesting (at my website, http://www.cocoowenphd.com).

Looking forward to reading more of your blog once I’m back home.
